Fabrics are Powerful Statements of Style

Here are some guidelines on updating that will help you select the perfect fabric accents for your home.

Update a traditional bedroom using non traditional fabrics or patternsTraditional:

Update a traditional look by choosing a formal pattern in a non-traditional color or texture. Plush, nubby or beaded damasks in purple, lime green or sunny yellow create striking contrasts to the classic lines of a formal room.

Fresh, crisp blues and whites create a nautical harmony of textures and patterns while suggesting the fun and relaxation of seaside days.Casual:

Replace soft pastel patterns with bold geometrics. Stripes, plaids, and coordinating solid fabrics in strong colors give fresh appeal to a relaxed interior. Kelly greens and blues harmonize with natural outdoor surroundings such as lakes and woods; brick reds with white create a perfect backdrop for a “countryside” look; bright blues with white are cheerful and fresh, re-creating the dazzle of light and water at the sea shore.  The texture of a woven or “shag” rug contrasts comfortably with smooth wood or tile floors.

The pillows have a traditional but updated purple damask design which contrasts comfortably with the contemporary stripes on the sofa.Modern: Energize a neutral interior by choosing a single bold color to toss about the room. Jolts of strong red or yellow draw your eyes like a magnet and create exciting centers of interest. Or choose accents of secondary colors like clear pinks, turquoise, or violet to personalize the effect. Colorful patterns in uncommon large scale are playful and fresh; the perfect facelift for a ho-hum room!
